What is the difference between “hypnobirthing” and hypnotherapy for birth?
“Hypnobirthing” is a structured, childbirth education program which incorporates elements of Hypnosis.
Whereas, Hypnotherapy for birth is a more holistic approach, using hypnosis to empower women through pregnancy and labour. It is a broader term encompassing various approaches, including using hypnosis for deep relaxation, pain management and anxiety reduction. The approach is freer and allows each hypnotherapist to tailor their services to specifically suit each mother’s wants and needs.

When a mother is fearful, her body releases stress hormones like adrenaline, which can tense muscles, including the uterus, and slow down labour.
By reducing anxiety and fear through hypnotherapy, the Fear-Tension-Pain Cycle is broken.
Hypnotherapy techniques, such as colour breathing, visualisation, and guided imagery, induce a relaxation response in the body. This response triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain relievers, and reduces the production of stress hormones.
The Fear-Tension-Pain Cycle is replaced with the Calm-Relaxed Cycle. When we relax, the Autonomic Nervous System, specifically the Parasympathetic System kicks in which reduces the fight-or-flight response.
