Science:

Confidence is not just a feeling, but a complex interplay of neural processes involving regions like the prefrontal cortex (for decision-making and planning), the amygdala (for emotional processing), and the reward system (for motivation and positive reinforcement).

The brain's ability to rewire itself allows us to strengthen the neural pathways associated with confidence through practice and repetition.

Mental rehearsals, also known as visualisation, can significantly strengthen neural pathways forming. This is because the brain doesn't always distinguish between imagined and real experiences, meaning visualisation can trigger similar neural activity as physical practice. This is why hypnotherapy is so successful at helping to build confidence.

When we experience success and positive outcomes, visualised and in reality, our brains release dopamine, which reinforces those experiences and strengthens the neural pathways associated with confidence. This creates a positive feedback loop, making us more likely to feel confident in the future.
