Pain

Definition:

Pain is far more than just a physical sensation.

It is a complex and multi-dimensional experience involving sensory, emotional, and cognitive elements.

Pain can be acute (short-term) or persistent (chronic), and individuals can experience both types simultaneously.

The way in which the brain interprets and processes pain plays a crucial role in effective pain management.

This is why hypnotherapy is highly successful at helping people holistically manage their pain through deep relaxation, reframing emotions and altering the brain's perception of pain.

Facts:

According to the latest research on UK adults:

Approximately 43% of people experience chronic pain, which is pain lasting longer than three months.

Chronic pain is more common in women than men.

Pain and mental health are interconnected. Pain affects mental health and mental health affects how we experience pain.

Science:

Experiencing a traumatic event that remains unprocessed or a lot of stress over a long period of time can contribute to an anxiety disorder.

Norepinephrine is a neurotransmitter involved in the body's fight-or-flight response. It increases alertness and high levels can lead to anxiety.

Low levels of serotonin, dopamine imbalance and chronically elevated cortisol levels contribute to anxiety.

Reduced gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activity, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), and increased amygdala activity are all associated with anxiety.

Anxiety disorders tend to run in families. You may be at an increased risk of developing anxiety if you have a parent or sibling who suffers from anxiety.

  • You will experiencing deep relaxation reducing your cortisol levels.

  • You will address your anxiety narrative.

“Managing and running my own business results in me having a lot of stress and coping with a huge amount of other people’s stresses too. I contacted Gemma about hypnotherapy and whether she thought that may help. I was really impressed with her personal and professional manner throughout our first meeting, instantly grasping what industry I worked in and showing empathy for the areas of life that I found most stressful. Gemma’s thorough initial information gathering was evident throughout our four sessions, demonstrating her attentive listening and accurate understanding of my situation, thoughts, and feelings. Even now in times of stress I still mentally use the green shiny pebble in my pocket creating space and allowing me to breath and realign my thoughts. I would highly recommend Gemma for any hypnotherapy sessions that you may be thinking about.”

“I had a Hypnotherapy session with Gemma to quit smoking. Gemma was professional throughout, discussing her ethical boundaries with me and quickly established a good rapport. She explained how the session would work creating a comfortable environment. I was unsure what to expect, as I haven't done anything like this before, but I have been smoke and vape free since the session and haven't felt the need to do so. Gemma did a great job and I'd highly recommend her.”
